Bluffton Elementary and Early Childhood Center is located in Bluffton, South Carolina. The school currently serves 610 students in grades Prekindergarten through fifth grades. The mission of the school at this time is to actively integrate educational technology into the classroom.
The school has a total of 75 employees with approximately 42 being certified teachers. This internship will focus on the certified teachers. The technology skill level of 80% of the certified teachers is very high. The remaining 20% are beginner to moderate levels. The teachers have not integrated Web 2.0 into the classroom on a consistent basis. The internship will propose 5 Web 2.0 sites for integration.
Learning Goals and Objectives
During this internship, I will be able to:
-Develop video tutorials for targeted ability groups (one for higher skill, one lower)
-Create easy to read and follow directions in PDF format
-Evaluate the success of tutorials through teacher surveys
Responsibilities and Tasks
To achieve learning objectives, I will: - Review teacher proficiency levels - Acquire video production program Camtasia – free trial - Create teacher surveys via Google Docs - Meet with mentor to review scripts and handouts - Develop skill-based video tutorials - Review teacher planning times and set training schedules
Deliverables
Learning objectives will be measured by:
-5 video tutorials geared towards beginner/moderate technology proficiency
-5 video tutorials geared towards advanced technology proficiency
-Scripts for each tutorial
-PDF handouts for each of the 10 videos
-teacher surveys regarding tutorials
-3-5 page reflection paper
Schedule and Milestones
Weeks 1-2 - Discuss internship project with staff - Use technology proficiency results to group staff members - Create Edublog tutorial/handout - Train staff on usage of Edublog during planning periods
Weeks 3-4 - Survey staff about Edublog tutorial - Create Museum Box tutorial/handout - Train staff on usage of Museum Box during planning periods
Weeks 5-6 - Survey staff about Museum Box tutorial - Create Animoto tutorial/handout - Train staff on usage of Animoto during planning periods
Weeks 7-8 - Survey staff about Animoto tutorial - Create Google Earth tutorial/handout - Train staff on usage of Google Earth during planning periods
Weeks 9-10 - Survey staff about Google Earth tutorial - Create Panoramio tutorial/handout - Train staff on usage of Panoramio during planning periods
Weeks 11-12 - Survey staff about Panoramio tutorial - Write 3-5 page reflection and submit to Dr. Smyth - Submit products to Dr. Smyth - Have mentor write evaluation and submit to Dr. Smyth
